The Best Advice On Productivity You’ll Ever Read

Productivity has very little to do with how much you actually get done, and way more with the fact that you actually start doing something.

If you just did very little every hour of every day, you would likely get more done than doing a lot in an hour every once in a while.

The biggest issue when it comes to productivity is therefore not that you need to be more efficient with your limited time, but rather that you decide to work more often; aka that you find productivity more frequently.

The most productive people in the world are not those that work long hours every once in a while, but those that chose to work whenever they get a chance.

Now, what makes them different is not that they have a reason to do this, as most would like you to think.

Sure, a strong why is definitely a powerful support, but it is not a necessary one.

When you think about being productive, what usually gets in the way?

It’s usually not your skills, not your time, nor your energy, but rather because you do not want to do it.

You don’t feel like it so you don’t do it.

Usually, that’s the end of the story, although sometimes a little more of a reason is required.

When it is, you usually come up with some good, or even valid sounding excuse not to work.

But does that really mean you can’t?

Are all these reasons real or are they just made up?

Imagine, for example, that I were to give you 10 million dollars if you worked for an hour right now regardless of how you felt; Would you do it?

Would you grind into the late hours of the night?

Would you go running even if your legs hurt and it was pouring rain?

What would you all do for that much money?

If you said that you could do something for that money then it is not a lack of skill, time or energy for you to work more, but rather that you still put your feelings over your actions.

The most productive people in the world today are so productive because they work no matter how they feel about it.

It does not matter whether they are sick, bored or have to do something they do not want to do.

For they know that, in the end, what matters is not how they felt about working but about what actually got done.

And, in the end, that is exactly what matters.

In the end no one will look back and ask you how you felt while doing it.

No one will care whether you were happy, sad or frustrated. They will not care whether you loved what you did or whether you hated it.

What they will be interested instead is what you did do.

Take Picasso, Michelangelo, Einstein, Hawking, Gandhi, or any other person of success and ask yourself if you can say that you truly know how they felt while doing what they did.

How do you know they weren’t miserable and still did what they needed to do?

Now, of course I doubt they were absolutely miserable, but I also doubt they were absolutely overjoyed every day.

But it doesn’t matter anymore.

Whether they were miserable or not, whether they were motivated or overjoyed, they still achieved amazing things; they were still productive.

Which basically boils down to this:

You decide what you want to be.

All the distractions you submit yourself to everyday are your choices.

In the instance you are not working you are choosing to not be the rich, productive or successful person you may want to be.

The trick in being productive is Choice.

It is choosing to do something even when we feel like crap and even when no one else would keep working.

Yet, most of us chose to wait.

We hope and pray for some Motivation or happy feelings to hit…

We are waiting for the drive, for that unknown force that makes the work easier, and will wait to the point where we do not have another choice but to work to actually do something.

Sometimes, we even wait longer than that and ruin everything.

Often those feelings do not come, and then, even though we do not like to admit it, we make the choice not to do anything at all.

Productivity is a choice, right now, to do something, regardless of how we feel.

Every choice, even not making a choice, leads us towards a kind of lifestyle.

Whenever we decide to watch TV, play video games, or distract ourselves in some other way that is our choice as well.

The question is: Why do we keep choosing the options that we deem as bad?

Every minute of every day, even if it is only subconsciously, we are choosing to either be productive or not.

That doesn’t mean we always have to chose Productivity over relaxation and distractions, for sometimes those are necessary to recharge.
