1. Obasanjo Endorses Peter Obi For President, Writes Open Letter To Nigerian Youths

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has openly endorsed the Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obasanjo made his position known in a letter he personally signed, which he addressed to Nigerian youths, titled “My Appeal to all Nigerians, particularly young Nigerians”.

The former Nigerian leader described Peter Obi as “a needle with thread attached to it from North and South and he may not get lost”.

2. 2023: 11 APC Governors, 37 Senators And 15 Reps Working To Put Atiku In Power – PDP Presidential Campaign

The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization has claimed that eleven Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly working underground for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Daniel Bwala, spokesman of the Atiku Campaign Organisation told Daily Independent that as at first week of December 2022, 37 senators and 15 House of Representatives elected under the platform of APC are working for Atiku’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

“As early as first week of December, we already have 11 APC governors that are supporting our cause and it is still counting. We have 37 APC senators and 15 House of Reps members. That was first week of December. You can imagine by now how much more we would have gained,” Bwala boasted.

The PDP stalwart stated this while responding to an interview by a former commissioner for Information in Edo state, Prince Kassim Afegbua who claimed that he had it on good authority Atiku met with three APC governors in Dubai.

“I am aware and have it on good authority that the Atiku group held a meeting with three APC Governors in Dubai, but it won’t yield any positive result” Afegbua had said.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has asked Nigerians to celebrate surviving many challenges that plagued the year 2022.

The renowned cleric said this on Sunday during his New Year sermon at the RCCG National Headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

Adeboye said surviving the “murderers wearing police uniforms”, banditry, kidnapping, COVID-19, and other challenges were worth celebrating.

The renowned cleric asked the congregation to go out and celebrate themselves, adding that they were survivors because God was taking care of them.

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has warned the 2023 presidential candidates against deceiving Nigerians with unrealistic campaign promises.

In his New Message in Abuja on Saturday, Kaigama asked the flagbearers to campaign without hatred, bitterness, incitement, or misinformation ahead of the 2023 elections.

The cleric expressed hope that peace, social progress, human solidarity and development will characterize all of 2023.

He also tabled agenda for them including the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons, rebuilding of terrorized communities, and confronting the security challenges as the country squares up for the election in 2023.

The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has rubbished the endorsement of his counterpart in the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo, in a new year message to Nigerian youths, had condemned the candidacy of Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer Atiku Abubakar.

Reacting to Obi’s endorsement via a statement issued by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, the APC flag bearer insisted that Obasanjo’s support is worthless adding that his political goodwill has no influence in any part of the country.

Onanuga opined that Obasanjo has a history of failed endorsement and Obi’s situation would not be an exception.

He insisted that after the 2003 and 2007 elections, Obasanjo has failed to successfully influence the success of a candidate even in his home state Ogun.

6. PDP Crisis: Four Out Of The G-5 Governors Will Find It Hard To Ask Supporters To Vote For Another Party — Nwodo

A former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has said that it would be difficult for four out of the G-5 governors to ask their supporters to vote for another party apart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nwodo, who is the former National Chairman of the PDP, argued that three out of the governors are contesting for Senatorial elections which also fall on the same day as the Presidential election.

He stated that this situation would make it difficult for the governors to compel people to support another political party.

Nwodo explained that Seyi Makinde who is also running for Governor might face the same fate as his other counterparts leaving Nyesom Wike alone on the battlefield.

Speaking at his country home in Ukene Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, the PDP stalwart said that his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has promised to handover the presidency to South East after serving out his eight-year tenure.

7. Notorious Bandit Terrorist, Dankarami Escapes Death In NAF Bombing On New Year’s Eve

A terrorist kingpin, Gwoska Dankarami narrowly escaped death on new year’s eve after the Nigerian Military stormed his hideout in Zamfara State.

It was gathered that Nigerian Air Force (NAF) bombed his hideout located along Kaura Namoda Road in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State in the early hours of Saturday.

While not less than sixteen of his soldiers were killed in the bomb attack, Dankarami himself managed to escape with serious injuries.

A source who spoke with PR Nigeria on the development said the military bomb attack was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji.

The airstrikes on the wanted terrorist have also been confirmed by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet who added that they would still go after Dankarami and other terrorists like him.

8. PDP Crisis: Ayu Attacks G-5 Govs, Rejects Wike, Makinde, Ortom, Others Nominees

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has made moves against the five aggrieved PDP governors who want him out.

Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) have not hidden their desire for the resignation or removal of Ayu.

The governors, known as the G5, have accused the PDP Chairman of partiality and corruption, asking him to step aside for a Southerner.

According to The Nation, Ayu has launched an offensive against the governors, shredding the lists of polls agents compiled by the governors and forwarded to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While the electoral act empowers political parties to be represented at each of the polling booths and collation centres, the PDP National Chairman reportedly do not want the party’s destiny to be entrusted into the hands of those nominated by the dissenting governors.

A source revealed that Ayu and his team have subjected the lists of prospective agents from the G-5 and a few other states to scrutiny.

9. Atiku’s Camp Reveals Crisis Rocking APC Over Tinubu’s Meeting With Wike, Ortom, Makinde, Others

The camp of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that some candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are against the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu’s meeting with the five aggrieved governors of the PDP.

Reports had emerged last week claiming that Tinubu had met with Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) at his London residence.

But the APC presidential candidate had denied reports of the meeting, stating that he is in Saudi Arabia for Hajj.

In a statement on Sunday, Special Assistant, Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu accused Tinubu of telling lies about his meeting with the G-5 governors.

He claimed that APC candidates including Senator Teslim Folarin have kicked against any deal with the PDP governors that will jeopardize his ambition to govern Oyo State.

10. Is Wike The Owner Of Julius Berger? – Secondus Reacts To Allegation Of Failing To Complete Awarded Contracts

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has berated the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike over his statement alleging that he failed to execute contracts awarded to him.

During the commissioning of the Eneka-Igbo Etche Road project on Friday, Wike had accused Secondus of failing to complete the contracts awarded to him.

Wike said in some instances, the contract sum was fully paid, but the projects were not completed. He challenged the former party chairman to name any road contract he was awarded that he completed.

However, Secondus in a short interview with Sunday Punch insisted that there is no truth to the claim. He explained that he has never been a contractor or collected any contract from the state.
