Peter Obi Speaks On Contesting Again In 2027

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP) in the 2023 general elections Peter Obi has dismissed a false report against him.

The Dailypost newspaper had written about a purported interview where the former Anambra governor revealed his plans to become president in 2027.

However, in a statement released on Saturday, Obi stressed that he never granted any interview or made press remarks about plans on becoming president in 2027.

He also maintained that the report about his reaction to recent appointees into the federal government were fabricated and untrue.

The LP candidate maintained that he will continue to speak on tropical national issues via recognized news and media outfits, adding that his focus and that of the Obidents movement is keen on creating the new Nigeria.

Arrest Ex-President, Buhari Who Gave Orders To Emefiele – Lawyers Tell DSS

The State Security Services (SSS) has faced criticism from Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, a group of legal practitioners, for the arrest and detention of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

They questioned the absence of similar action against former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Arise Television, Kingdom Okere, the Convener of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, argued that Emefiele was merely following orders and that the person who gave these orders, former President Buhari, should also be held accountable by the SSS.

He said, “Whatever Emefiele did as CBN Governor had presidential approval. So, if they have anything against him, they should also know that it is traceable to former President Muhammadu Buhari and they should also bring him to book so that they can defend themselves.

“Be that as it may, DSS upon searching Emefiele’s house found only N300,000. Does it mean that Emefiele from his legitimate earnings cannot have N300,000 in his house?

They also found a licence for pump action. Any other thing they come out with tomorrow that they found in Emefiele’s house is pure falsehood.”

President Tinubu Govt Fulfills 2023 Financial Obligation To AU

The Federal Government has fulfilled Nigeria’s financial obligations to the African Union (AU) by making full payment of its assessed contributions for the year 2023.

The confirmation was made on Saturday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa, on the sidelines of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU in Nairobi, Kenya.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information,State House.

Ambassador Lamuwa explained that the payment demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to its responsibilities as an AU member-state.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for living up to expectations not only as the Chairperson of ECOWAS but also as a President who emphasizes prompt payment of financial assessments.

Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, a group of legal practitioners, are asking for the dismissal of Yusuf Bichi, the Director General of State Services (DGSS).

They wonder why President Tinubu retained him while removing other Service Chiefs.

The group’s Convener, Kingdom Okere, voiced these concerns on Arise Television, cautioning that President Tinubu might be sending the wrong message to Nigerians by keeping Bichi in his role.

Okere said, “We are calling on President Tinubu to not allow the overzealousness of the DSS to tarnish his hard-earned reputation of believing in the rule of law, of believing in opposition politics and in his inaugural address, he promised Nigerians that he was going to obey the rule of law.

“We now asked him, why are you still leaving this man in office? All other Service Chiefs have been removed. Why did you leave him? Probably because he participated in the whole politics of old and new Naira notes and attempted to initially frame Emefiele up by going to the Federal High Court to seek an exparte application.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member States.

President Tinubu is attending the meeting both as Nigerian leader as well as the new Chairman of ECOWAS, one of the eight Regional Economic Communities.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has declared aspartame, one of the most common artificial sweeteners, as a possible carcinogen.

WHAT IS ASPARTAME?

Aspartame is an odourless white powder discovered in 1965 by James Schlatter, a US chemist.

It is approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar which means only a very small amount is needed to sweeten foods and beverages. Because it is only required in small quantities, it is used as a substitute for sugar in soft drinks.

The ingredient is approved for use in Nigeria as a non-nutritive sweetener with an acceptable daily intake of 40mg/kg of body weight.

Lawyers Accuse DSS Of Framing Suspended CBN Governor, Emefiele

Legal practitioners from the group Lawyers in Defence of Democracy have claimed that the State Security Services (SSS) framed the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

During an appearance on Arise TV on Friday, Kingdom Okere, the Convener of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, criticized the arrest as a breach of a standing order from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

He noted the SSS had attempted to arrest Emefiele in December of the previous year but only managed to do so in June 2023.

Okere expressed concern that despite this six-month interval, the security agency continued to detain Emefiele, suggesting they should have gathered their evidence during this period.
