2023: Atiku Worked Against Zoning Because This Is His Last Shot At Presidency – Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has revealed why he is angry with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

According to Governor Wike, he is not pleased with the former vice president for working against the zoning arrangement of the party.

Wike noted that he is not angry with Atiku because he lost the presidential ticket of the party to him, but because Atiku failed to follow the zoning arrangement.

The Rivers State Governor said Atiku worked against zoning because the 2023 presidential election is his last shot at the presidency.

Wike in an interview with BBC Pidgin said, “If that conspiracy isn’t there during the dying minute, the candidate knows there’s a problem, and I said if I’m angry to that extent I would challenge it but I want the survival of the party, I allow it then other things come up.

“The issue of zoning was important, when we met, most of us raised the issue of zoning, which is provided in the constitution of the party.

“They set up a committee and agreed that the national chairman should go to the north, when it reached the presidential ticket matter, they set up a committee but to tell you they are not sincere, the committee never came up with a resolution and they went by forms, what is the implication?

“Which zoning are you talking about, they did it deliberately and the mastermind is a so-called presidential candidate today.

“When that happened, the national chairman on his own knowing that this is the tradition of the party, came up to say if the presidential candidate comes out from his zone he will resign. Now when it happened, for him to fulfil his promise he said no.”

2023: Wike Denies Meeting Atiku Five Times

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has denied meeting with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar over the crisis rocking the party.

Speaking on Atiku’s recent interview where he said he met with Wike at least five times, Wike said the ex-vice president’s comment is not correct.

He further stated that the only time he saw Atiku was when he visited him at his house after the presidential primaries of the party.

Wike disclosed this in an interview with BBC Pidgin on Friday.

He said, “With all due respect when you say someone tells a lie it would be like someone saying an elder tells a lie, what he says is not correct.

“The only time I saw Atiku after the primaries at my house was in Abuja, on Saturday after the primaries leading to Sunday, he came to my house in Abuja, I was returning to Abuja.

“We entered the office in my house in Abuja and said can we talk? My anger is that I discuss it with you, I respect you and you tell me something but unknown to me, you are not sincere about it.

“The worse is that you say it voluntarily. When we sat down he said he thought Ayu had to go because it was not a tradition that the chairman and presidential candidate would come from the same zone. So that was the only time Atiku came to see me after the primaries on Monday.”
