Atiku vs Wike: Okowa Leads Fresh Reconciliation Moves As Ortom, Ikpeazu Soften Stance

The camp of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has begun fresh moves to reconcile with the five aggrieved governors of the party and the Integrity Group.

The five aggrieved governors are Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; and Samuel Ortom of Benue State. Ikpeazu, Ortom, and Ugwuanyi are senatorial candidates; Makinde is running for another term in office, while only Wike is not contesting any position.

Despite previous overtures gradually yielding fruits, the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP and governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been mandated to lead new reconciliation moves. With barely two months to the 2023 general election, Saturday Sun gathered that two members of the G-5 governors, especially Ikpeazu and Ortom, might be softening their stance.

Makinde Stops Conferment Of Traditional Title On Atiku As PDP BoT Member Says Party Crisis To Be Resolved

The administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reportedly influenced the suspension of a traditional title expected to be bestowed on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, by the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Olalekan Balogun.

The Olubadan was set to honour Atiku Abubakar with ‘Aree Akogun Of Ibadan Land.’ In a letter released by the monarch, the chieftaincy title, ‘Aree Akogun of Ibadan Land’ simply means ‘The President Of The Brave Ones Of Ibadanland”.

But in a new statement issued on December 12, the Palace announced the suspension of the ceremony. It was gathered that the crisis rocking the PDP played a role in the suspension of a traditional titled expected to be bestowed on Atiku. A palace source told Saturday Sun that the conferment of honorary title on Atiku was put on hold based on the decision of the Olubadan Advisory Council.

This platform gathered that one of such aggrieved APC loyalists, who pleaded anonymity told Punch “We understand that he was appointed as national youth coordinator to help galvanise support for Tinubu in Kogi and other states in the North-Central region.
