Work toward your goals by questioning

Questions are one of the best ways to advance in life.

In truth, most people do not question anything.

They live their lives and follow a path that they — or somebody else, pre-designed a long time ago. And there is nothing wrong with that. Many people relish the comfort of stability without too much risk and evolution.

Taking your life to the next level, however, is a different story.

If you want to break out of the norm, question everything.

In this context, taking a few minutes daily to ask and answer personal growth questions is a powerful tool.

Some of the world’s top achievers perform this exact task.

In the words of Richard Branson,

“Far too many people get weighed down in doing and never take the time to think and feel. […] By scheduling time to think freely — whether it’s an hour, a day, or even a holiday — you’ll be able to see the bigger picture much easier.”

Consequently, taking time to think and to ask the right questions is a precondition for personal development.

So, which questions should you ask? There are many fruitful ways to question your life’s path, but the challenge resides in finding simple questions that actually help.

On this basis, here are eight powerful questions that can take your life to the next level.

What do I want to look like?

If you want to know where you’re at, ask yourself what you look like. Not in a physical sense — it’s about finding out what image you convey to the world.

In simple terms, look at people you admire and people you find repulsive. What are the primary attributes of the people you aspire to be? And what are the traits of the ones you don’t want to resemble?

Make a list of traits that you find admirable and traits that you can’t stand. Try to cultivate the former every day by asking yourself what you look like in the world.

If today was my last day alive, would I do the same thing?

Memento mori is the Stoic expression for remembering that you are mortal.

As The Daily Stoic writes,

“The point of this reminder isn’t to be morbid or promote fear, but to inspire, motivate and clarify.”

Motivation is the key here. If you want to find motivation for your daily activities, ask yourself whether you would do the same thing on your last day on earth.

Of course, no matter your lifestyle, you will have bad days. These days, however, shouldn’t make up the bulk of your life. As such, if the answer is negative for too many days in a row, it’s time to change your lifestyle.

What’s the worst-case scenario?

Whenever you have to make a decision, envision the worst-case scenario.

When pondering which direction to take, imagine the worst possible outcome for each one. How acceptable is either to you? How prepared are you for what could happen?

By knowing the worst possible results of your decisions, you’ll be much better prepared to face them.

What three decisions would I reverse?

Continuing on the topic of decisions, one of the best personal growth questions concerns reversing life choices.

You can apply this question to different areas:

  • If I could reverse three career decisions, where would I be?
  • If I could reverse three financial decisions, how much money would I have?
  • If I could reverse three relationship decisions, what would my life look like?

It’s not about dwelling in the past or beating yourself up for mistakes. The question will help you analyze your decision-making processes, identify your weaknesses, and help make better choices in the future.

Where is my tribe?

We often hear the phrase that we are average of the five people we spend the most time with.

Assuming that’s true, we need to create a tribe that fosters our progress and evolves on the same wavelength.

Relationships are a tricky subject, but they immensely impact lives. Finding a tribe is, therefore, one of life’s challenges.

What are my self-limiting beliefs?

Many people don’t evolve because of self-limiting beliefs.

Beliefs result in choices, and these choices lead to actions. It doesn’t matter whether they reflect the truth. What matters are their consequences.

I didn’t have one single entrepreneur in my family. Yet, I managed to make a living online because I rejected the belief that it wasn’t possible. That’s a small example, but they are everywhere.

What are my greatest strengths?

We all have talents and weaknesses. Many of us focus on the latter because our weaknesses create excuses not to try.

And that’s how self-limiting beliefs are born.

By emphasizing the things we’re not good at, we have the perfect excuse to ignore our strengths.

To evolve in life, however, we need to focus on our strengths and harness them.

How can I make this easy?

If you want a simple answer to the question of how to become successful, here it is.

You need to be able to perform activities that make you successful every day. That applies to making money, becoming fitter, and having healthy relationships.

As such, the most critical question is how to make these productive habits easier.

How can working on my side hustle every day become easy? How can I make it easy to go to the gym every day? And how can I effortlessly pursue my career?
