1. Jonathan Was Persecuted Out Of Office – Says Buhari’s Aide

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has admitted that former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was persecuted out of office in 2015.


Shehu noted this on Monday while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

The presidential aide said Nigerians would miss his principal, Buhari, the same way they yearned for Jonathan who was criticized until he left office.

President Buhari’s second tenure will elapse this year and the incumbent leader is bound to leave office on May 29th.

According to Shehu, Nigerian leaders are not loved while in office but are missed when they are gone. Shehu lamented over the level of criticisms thrown at the president.

He reiterated that Jonathan has now become the favourite of many Nigerians after throwing shades at him while he was in office.

Speaking on the cashless policy which has affected many businesses and brought suffering on Nigerians, Shehu affirmed that the current cashless policy of the present administration is desirable and irreversible.

2. Court Bars Ayu From Parading Himself As PDP National Chairman

A High Court in Makurdi, the Benue State capital has barred Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The interim court order against Ayu was given on Monday by Justice W.I. Kpochi in suit No. MHC/85/2023 filed at the court by Engr Conrad Terhide Utaan with Ayu and the PDP as defendants.

Justice Kpochi ordered that Ayu should stop parading himself as the PDP chairman pending the determination of a suit filed against him.

The case has been adjourned until April 17 for further hearing.

3. Gov David Umahi ‘Lobbies’ For Wike In Tinubu’s Gov’t, Mocks Ayu

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu has been asked to consider some highly placed opposition members like the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in his administration.

The suggestion was made by the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi who said the role of Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the victory of Tinubu in Rivers can not be over-emphasized.

Umahi made this pronouncement on Monday at the commissioning of the remodelled Community Secondary School, Okoro Nu Odo, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.

The governor in what seems to be a mockery of the PDP National Chairman, Iyochia Ayu said that for him, the scenario would have been different.

His mockery comes amid Ayu‘s recent sanction by the Benue State chapter of his party for alleged anti-party activities.

4. I Didn’t Know Him Before – Wike Recounts How Ortom Vouched For Ayu

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has claimed that he never knew the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, before.

Wike said but for his counterpart in Benue State, Samuel Ortom, he would not have known Ayu.

This is as the governor, who spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, recalled how Ortom was instrumental to Ayu becoming the PDP national chairman.

According to him, it was Ortom who vouched for Ayu’s appointment as the PDP national chairman. A move the governor said silenced those opposing him to be chairman then.

Recall that Wike, a member of the five aggrieved governors of the PDP had refused to work for the party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar at the just concluded general election.

He and four other members, which include Ortom insisted that Ayu must step down from his position for a candidate of southern extract.

However, Ayu’s refusal to resign caused the PDP the support of these five governors at the 2023 polls.

5. Our Signatures Were Forged – PDP Speaks On Ayu’s Suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the homestate of the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, has on Monday stated that claims he was suspended from the party were untrue.


According to the stakeholders in the party, they were not aware of the suspension, adding that their signatures were forged.

In a statement addressed to the PDP Chairman in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, the executive members of Igyorov Ward of Benue State disclosed that they did not approve Ayu’s suspension.

They subsequently called on PDP members and supporters to ignore the development, adding that their signatures were forged to promote mischief.

They noted that the suspension did not observe due process and consultation which is in line with the party’s constitution.

6. Iwuanyanwu Denies Calling Yoruba Rascals

The Chairman of Elders Forum of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Monday dismissed reports claiming that he (Iwuanyanwu) described the Yoruba as political rascals.

While dissociating himself from the reports claiming he made the statement during his outing at Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s one year in office event in Awka, Anambra State, weekend, the elder statesman said it is fake news.

According to the Igbo chief, his statement at the event was manipulated and circulated on the social media by blackmailers.

He warned all perpetrators of the fake news that it is a criminal offense to circulate false reports against a peace-loving Nigerian, stressing that he is a senior citizen who has meritoriously served Nigeria.

According to Vanguard, he noted that all seven Igbo-speaking states namely — Rivers, Delta, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu States — have honoured him with the traditional title of AHAEJIAGAMBA NDIGBO.

7. Atiku Will Not Work With Tinubu, Light And Darkness Don’t Relate – Dino Melaye

The spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council during the just concluded elections, Senator Dino Melaye, has refuted some speculations that his principal, Atiku Abubakar, will work with President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Recall that Atiku came second behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential race. After a fierce contest, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25th poll.

It said the former Governor of Lagos State won more votes than Atiku and third placed Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

Reacting, however, to some claims that PDP’s Atiku is retiring from politics after losing at polls, Melaye via his verified Twitter handle on Monday, said such claims should be disregarded.

He also faulted the claims that the former Vice President will be joining hands with Tinubu who succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.

8. Election Petition Tribunal: Tinubu Not Running Away – Lawyer Gives Update

The Legal Director of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council, Babatunde Ogala has denied claims that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is running away from getting served court papers regarding the petition against his victory at the polls.

Ogala also denied claims that Tinubu travelled out of the country in order to frustrate and delay the process at the election petition tribunal against his victory.

This is as he revealed that Tinubu can’t respond to the petitions filed at the election tribunal by the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar when he has not been served a notice.

The lawyer disclosed that his principal had not been served the petition against him before he travelled out of the country.

The development is coming at a time the LP and PDP camps have accused the Tinubu camp of intentionally delaying the process by avoiding court papers.

Based on the complaint, the election tribunal sitting in Abuja has ordered Obi and Atiku to serve him with copies of petitions seeking to nullify his election through substituted means, specifically through his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Chief Spokesman of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, was quoted by Punch to have expressed disappointment that the recent vacation trip embarked upon by Tinubu was another ploy to avoid being served the papers.

However, Ogala has rubbished such claims, insisting that they have not been served any notice. He added that there is no truth in claims that his principal also left the country to evade being served the notice.

9. INEC Fixes Date For Kebbi, Adamawa Inconclusive Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday 15th April 2023 for the conduct of outstanding Governorship election in Kebbi State and Adamawa State.

The electoral umpire made this known in a statement on its Twitter page on Monday.

It stated that the decision to fix a new date for supplementary elections for both Governorship, National and State Assembly was taken at its meeting held today.

INEC wrote: “Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023.

10. I’m Not Afraid Of EFCC Invitation, I Have Nothing To Hide – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike Rivers State has said he is not afraid of being invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the expiration of his tenure.

The governor disclosed that he will not run away from the country at the end of his tenure because of the fear of being arrested by the anti-graft agency.

Wike said this during his appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily on Monday.

He was reacting to a comment by the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, that the anti-graft agency will embark on the arrest of corrupt governors whose tenure will expire on May 29.

According to the governor, he is not bothered by the threat of the anti-graft agency to arrest governors alleged to have embezzled public funds.

Wike said he will be part of the handover ceremony and will honour the invitation of EFCC if he is invited, stressing that he has nothing to hide.

He, however, vowed that he will not run away from Nigeria days before the inauguration of his successor as some ex-governors had done in the past.
