In our quest to achieve every goal on the checklist, we often get this crippling anxiety. The feeling that overwhelms us, makes us doubt our abilities and question our worth. Whether we want to excel in our job or we are making plans to take our brand to the next level, something or the other will always keep happening. That is how the world works. No amount of backup plans can guarantee a smooth sail.

However, navigating the ship during turbulent times will be a lot easier if you are a master of these 3 life skills.

1. Emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the capacity to identify your feelings, manage them, and express them in a healthy way. It also means that you are able to understand the perspective of others and acknowledge their feelings along with your own.

This life skill will help you deal with everything in life — the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most of us strive to keep life uncomplicated. However, that is easier said than done. When we fail to do that, our emotions can go haywire.

Take your time to breathe. When life feels too complex, press pause and take a lungful of fresh air. Meditation and breathing exercises are not exclusive to people dabbling in spirituality. They help everyone relieve stress to a great extent. Learn to recognize your emotions to keep them in check. With high emotional intelligence, you will have the mental fortitude to tackle any adversity.

2. Managing false expectations

There is a difference between ambitions and false expectations. It is good to have goals. They help us move forward. However, it is unhealthy to have unrealistic expectations. They prevent us from pursuing the important things in life because we get too busy chasing unattainable dreams.

The first step for managing false expectations is to recognize your own limits. Having a clear boundary helps prioritize essential tasks. You will understand when you do not have the capacity to handle any additional responsibility. If this happens at the workplace, you can convey the same to your teammates without being impertinent.

3. Time management

Time management skill helps you live a balanced life with the right amount of work and leisure. You can take charge of your time and focus your energy on one thing at a time without feeling overwhelmed. Lack of this skill can cause significant stress in your daily life.

Today, life has become much easier with the abundance of information available at our fingertips. The same abundance can be a curse when trying to get some work done. We switch from replying to emails to checking Instagram without even realizing it. Then we spend endless hours on the social media app and forget the pending tasks.

Take control of your time for a stress-free life. You can list your duties to get a clear idea of what needs to be done. If the more complex tasks seem intimidating, break them into smaller ones to prevent procrastination. Keep your phone away if that distracts you. You should also share responsibilities with others based on their availability instead of trying to fit everything into your schedule.

You can treat your biggest failure as a stepping stone to the biggest success of your life. That will only be possible when you are emotionally intelligent and know how to adjust your time and manage expectations. These life skills also ensure you can enjoy your achievements to the fullest without experiencing burnout.
