In today’s over-stimulating environment, there is no neutral ground. You’re either going up. Or, you’re going down.

You’re either using technology to facilitate unthinkable opportunity, learning, and growth. Or, you’re being sucked into an endless web of distraction.

Of course, one is to be moving towards who you want to become, while the other is to be going backwards.

This article reminds you of five important truths to keep you on the path toward your goals, visions, and dreams. Here we go.

1. You Never Need More Motivation

“Motivation is a bit like a million dollars. Everyone wants it, everyone knows it will make their life better, but it seems impossible to ever obtain it.” -Anthony Moore

Motivation is a heavily misunderstood concept. Many people mistakenly believe that motivation is a make or break — they either have it or they don’t.

However, the truth is, your motivation simply rises to the level of your vision; the clearer it is, the easier it is.

Hence, Jim Rohn has brilliantly said, “The bigger the ‘why,’ the easier the ‘how.’”

According to what psychologists call the Expectancy Theory of Motivation, a person must have three things to feel deeply and fully motivated toward their goals:

A goal that’s personally meaningful and worth pursuing;
A plan or process for achieving that goal; and
A belief that they can execute the steps to obtain that goal.
Without these, you won’t be motivated. So, never again say you need more motivation. Instead, create a better plan! Know what you want and go after it. Develop a vision worth fighting for.

2. Wherever Your Awareness Goes, Your Life Follows

“Wherever your mind goes, your body follows. Wherever your thoughts go, your life follows.” -Benjamin P. Hardy

Tell me what you pay attention to, and I’ll tell you who you will become. Monk-turned-entrepreneur, Dandapani once said,

“If I took a watering can and watered the garden bed; would the weeds grow or the flowers grow? Both. Water has no ability to discriminate between the weeds and the flowers. Whatever you water grows.”

Indeed, the law of the harvest is always in effect; you reap what you sow. Your life right now is a direct reflection of the thoughts, decisions, and seeds you’d previously planted.

Likewise, who will become is based upon the thoughts, decisions, and seeds you plant within each present moment.

So, want something different? Then plant something different. Do something different. Take control over the garden of your mind. You are in complete control of your experience.

3. No One Will Care More about Your Success Than You

“The moment you accept total responsibility for EVERYTHING in your life is the day you claim the power to change ANYTHING in your life.” -Hal Elrod

Success starts with a vision but it doesn’t end there. Author Peter Senge said, “It doesn’t matter what your vision is. It matters what your vision does.”

When you know what you want, you have to take responsibility and make it happen. You have to see it in your mind and then go there yourself — no one is going to force you to your highest potential.

While this may seem a scary thought to ponder upon, it’s actually incredibly relieving because when you know you’re fully responsible for the outcomes of your life, who can you blame?

If you don’t create your ideal future, that’s on you. If you’re not happy in life, that’s also on you. Hence, Anthony Moore once wrote,

“The biggest obstacle in your life isn’t your boss, your job, the economy, other people, or God. It’s yourself.”

Also, why Mahatma Gandhi said his famous words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

4. Your Struggles Develop Your Strengths

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” -Arnold Schwarzenegger

Your greatest struggles can become your greatest strengths. According to Newton’s Third Law, all forces come in pairs, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Thus, you cannot have happiness without knowing sadness. You can’t have success without the possibility of failure. You cannot have growth without a struggle. Hence the words from Ryan Holiday,

“The extent of the struggle determines the extent of the growth.”

It is the very challenges in day-to-day life that make it possible to thrive. Without said challenges, there would be nothing to overcome. You wouldn’t be able to evolve into better and greater versions of yourself.

So, don’t wish life were easier, wish you were better. Wish you had the courage to confront your fears. Wish you had the will to keep going even when it’s easier to quit.

5. You Miss Every Shot You Don’t Take

“Failure sucks, but the pain that is failure does not exceed the pain that is not trying at all.” -Casey Neistat

All of life is an experiment. So, don’t be afraid to fail. Simply take one step and then the next. If one idea doesn’t work, then come up with a better idea!

The nature of the world we live in is you never truly know what’s right around the corner. You could be one email, one blog post or one job application away from a major breakthrough. So, just take the shot!

Pitch the idea.
Send the email.
Publish the article.

You’ll often be surprised at what shots actually go in. For example, there have been many times I was scared to publish a blog post that then went onto be read by thousands.
