Here are five critical success factors that will help ensure your life is on the right track, and you live a successful life.

1. Invest in Yourself

ā€œLove yourself first, and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.ā€ ā€” Lucille Ball, an American actress

The first place to start is by investing in your life. It starts by understanding the purpose of your life and the goals you want to achieve. To achieve great success, you must act.

Warren Buffett, one of the most successful investors of the 20th and early 21st centuries, says the best investment that people can make is to invest in themselves.

ā€œOne investment supersedes all others: invest in yourself.ā€ ā€” Warren Buffett

Buffett says the government canā€™t tax an investment in yourself, and even inflation canā€™t take it away from you. Itā€™s an investment that canā€™t be beaten because an investment in yourself will pay off in the long run.

Investing in yourself will take some effort, time, and money. With some heart, sweat, and discipline, you are putting energy into improving your current life and setting the stage for future success.

What are some ways to invest in yourself? Here are some ideas.

Read books and implement what you learned
Take some free certifications
Become a lifetime learner
Prioritize self-education
Start a side hustle
Turn off the TV
Make your social media feed more interesting
Become more curious
Find a mentor or become a mentor
Read articles online
Sign up for seminars or webinars
Expand your network
Spend time with family and friends
Adopt a pet
Learn to play an instrument

2. Take Care of Yourself

In addition to investing in yourself, you must take care of yourself. You must sharpen your saw every day and invest in self-care. Taking care of yourself helps you with your journey to achieving great success.

Taking care of yourself means engaging in regular physical exercise, improving your diet, and doing things you enjoy. All work and no play leads to a boring life, so you must find ways to refuel your tank daily.

How do you take care of yourself?

Make a healthy, home-cooked meal
Exercise ā€” all you need is 20ā€“30 minutes a day
Drink enough water
Get enough sleep
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink
Strive for excellence, not perfection
Rest (hint: itā€™s different than sleep, and there are five types)
Practice gratitude
Carve out time for yourself
Spend time alone
Play with your pet

3. Build Good Habits

Your habits determine where you end up in this world. What you do or donā€™t do will guide your life. Itā€™s essential to build good habits and eliminate bad ones.

Are your habits leading to where you want to go? Your habits should align with where you want to spend your time, your goals, and what you want your future to look like.

For example, if you are trying to save money for a new home, but going out to lunch and dinner every day, you are not on the right track. Additionally, if you attend unnecessary meetings and do pointless tasks at work, you are not working toward achieving a work-life balance.

Your habits must align with your goals to achieve success. Your desire will just be wishes instead of concrete objectives. Make sure your actions back up your ideas and words.

Research says about 40% of peopleā€™s daily activities are performed on autopilot. Are you heading in the right direction? Look at your habits and quit the toxic ones today.

4. Develop a Growth Mindset

ā€œSuccess is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.ā€ ā€” Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Do you think positively about challenges? What is your perspective on your current situation and the future? Do you have an optimistic outlook toward yourself and your abilities?

There will be challenges and setbacks in your life. You must develop a growth mindset ā€” you prioritize learning over failure, and you are unafraid to take risks ā€” to overcome difficulties in your life.

If you donā€™t have the proper mindset to handle arduous times, you will throw in the towel and revert to your comfort zone. This will not lead to a successful life.

When you have a growth mindset, you view failures as growth opportunities. You know that challenges will help you improve yourself and your outlook on life.

Life will be difficult, painful, and hard. It would be best if you had the right perspective to overcome lifeā€™s setbacks and approach every situation as an opportunity to improve.

Many people fail in life because they canā€™t overcome their thinking. Having the right mindset is crucial to success. If you are not failing, you are living in your comfort zone and not growing. That can be a dangerous place to live because success is achieved through personal growth.

5. Cultivate Relationships

A big factor in your success in life is your inner circle. Who do you let in and kick out? If you spend time with friends who wonā€™t contribute to your success, you need to find new friends.

Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Find people who think positively. Life is hard, and life will be more difficult if you donā€™t have a support group that helps you during tough times.

Cultivate relationships with people who have similar goals and interests. Relationships should support you and challenge you when you are not living up to your potential.

Determine what relationships in your life you need to keep and cut to ensure success in your life. Itā€™s okay to outgrow people in your life and not feel guilty for ā€œfiring a friendā€ that doesnā€™t align with what you are trying to accomplish in your life.
