Sleep routine
Get on a regular sleep schedule.
Stop making excuses and start waking up at the same time every single morning.
No more sleeping in.
The benefit, aside from circadian rhythm is extra time on the weekends to work on what you really want to work on.
Content plan
Create a content plan.
If you like video content, go to: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram.
Prefer written, head to: Medium, Twitter, LinkedIn.
Get on a regular creation and distribution schedule.
Honestly, you’ll want to show up every day. Some people will tell you 4–5x week suffices, except the top performers show up daily. That’s your competition.
Clarity
Spend some time alone with yourself to get clear on what you really want.
For me it’s:
The kind of financial freedom where we can live anywhere, vacation anywhere and do what we want, when we want.
The kind of relationships where my kids still want to come over and hang out when they don’t have to.
The kind of health where I always feel 2 decades younger than I am.
Once you have clarity you can build your habits around your goals. And saying “no” to everything else becomes easier.
Lift heavy weights
Light weights won’t build the body you want.
Muscles can either grow or shrink, they don’t “tone”. You want them to grow, regardless of your gender. It keeps you lean and fit.
So, make an effort to lift at least 3x week.
I’m aiming for 4–5 days per week these days. I do 6 exercises, 3 sets of each and it takes me about 30 minutes.
Be a better friend
You might think of it as networking, but really it’s building relationships.
Reach out to your friends to see how they’re doing. Make plans to hang out. Send funny memes.
Become the hub of your social network if possible.
Our future plans (waiting for the kids to get older) include a Third Thursday (3rd Thursday of every month) where we invite all our friends (and a plus one) to our home for games, conversation and appetizers.
Become a long term thinker
Adopt a long term mindset and it gets hard to ever lose.
Because on a long enough timeframe, you win.
How to help yourself here? Detach from outcomes, obsess over processes.
Ex. instead of obsessing over your Medium stats, obsess over your article output.
You have 100% control of your output and effort. Which will influence your outcome, but not dictate it. So focus where you have full control.
Then do that for a really long time.
Learn how to have enough
Most people spend their whole life chasing money or cheap dopamine hits. Then save and toil away for years in hopes of a nice retirement.
Instead look for ways to have more time, freedom, experiences and options right now.
Remote work became part of my equation. I work from home 80% of the time, which provides more time and freedom.
I don’t waste money buying objects, I spend it on experiences.
We’ve built a nice savings rate which allows us to have options. We could both quit our jobs and be good for years before we needed cash flow again. Having that option lets me sleep like a rock at night.

Invest in good socks (yes, socks not stocks, but do that too)
For Bare Feet are my favorite socks ever.
Putting them on my feet last Christmas opened up a whole new world for me. I’ll never buy cheap socks again.
This Christmas my mother-in-law gifted me a pair of Bombas slippers. Wooow.
Treat your feet nicely. Because if you’re anything like me, you’re on them for at least 10k steps per day.
Happy New Year!
