Do It Anyway —

You know why you can’t procrastinate and why you need to work. Get over your feelings and do it anyway. The truth is that you never really want to start, for there are always more fun activities. Start anyway.

Treat Work Seriously —

The only difference between an official meeting, for example, and the work you procrastinate on is that you treat one as a non-negotiable while you allow yourself to not take the other one seriously.

Make It A Must —

Do not leave yourself a second option. You have to work now. Period. There is no other choice! Not working is not an option. You must do this now.

Allow It To Suck —

Stop your perfectionistic thinking and allow the work to be awful. At the end of the day producing a pile of crap is worth more than not producing anything, especially mentally speaking. If you always allow yourself to get away with not working when you are afraid to produce something of low quality you are essentially training your mind to procrastinate. Stop training the procrastination muscle and allow the work you do to be awful so you do it anyway.

Stop Identifying With Your Work —

You are more than your work or title. You are more than the things you produce and do not produce. Whether or not you are a hard-worker, successful or just produce a bunch of garbage, you will still be you. Mess up, laugh about it and just continue on. This will distance you from the work which will make it easier to do it when you feel bad about it.

Find A Greater Cause — If you cannot do it for yourself, and you do not want to do it for your boss, then do it for someone or something else. Don’t do the work because you want to but because it will change the world for someone. If you cannot find anyone to do it for then do it for your future self, who is looking back right now hoping you work harder so that they can lead a better life.

Realize The Start Is Always The Worst —

In Physics, the energy used to start moving an object at rest is almost always more than to keep the object moving. If you dread the whole work too much then just do 2 minutes now.

Set Up Reminders —

These reminders should be inspirational, motivational, or kicking-you-in-the-but-ional. Whatever you need to get a move on. Put pictures and posters of your dreams everywhere, write your favorite quotes on every mirror, and set alarms on your pone to remind you of why you should work and what you wanted to work on.

Say “Yes and…” — Example: “I do not want to work.” —

Yes, and it will suck and be awful and I will do it anyway.” Essentially, act like a parent that listens to a complaining child without taking it seriously. You are in control. Do not let your mind run the show.

Move More —

Find a coffee shop to work, stretch a bit, work on your porch, or do whatever you need to to get some movement and fresh air. Let your muscles work a bit or else you will stagnate most of the necessary oxygen flow to your brain.

Drink More Water & Sleep More —

If you do either too little you will not have the physical energy to be on top of things.

Schedule Your Time —

Schedule everything you can possibly schedule. This will be a lot more work at first but after a while you will appreciate the extra time this creates. If you are not in control of your time someone else will be.

Have Fun —

Smile, laugh and enjoy yourself as much as you can while working. Try to enjoy yourself or at least plan some fun activities for your breaks and at the end of the day. Make your days more enjoyable overall and you will find more energy to work hard.
