If you studied successful and famous people who overcome life’s setbacks, you’ll realize that it’s not where they came from that made them successful.

It’s their habits and thinking that made a big difference.

“I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” — Estée Lauder, an American businesswoman

Success is about doing things you don’t want to do, so you can rise above the rest that won’t do those things.

If you only do the easy things in life, your life will be hard.

1. Trust Your Gut

“I rely far more on gut instinct than researching huge amounts of statistics.” — Richard Branson, a British billionaire, entrepreneur, and business magnate¥

Do you follow your intuition? Do you overthink everything? Do you trust your gut?

Your intuition can be more accurate in making the best decision than you may realize. Sometimes, it’s not easy to trust it. However, it won’t guide you in the wrong direction. To succeed, you must trust your gut feelings more because your intuition will tell you what’s the best thing to do in a situation.

Life is about making hard choices, such as staying or leaving your job. We often let our “ego” get in the way of following our gut. We often know what we should do but don’t do it. It can be hard, but your gut knows what is best for you.

2. Don’t Worry About What Other People Think

It can be easy to let other people’s comments get us down. We are human, and we like to hear the opinions of others. However, if you want to be successful, you must avoid the “noise” of what other people think and focus on what you can control.

It’s a choice to let people determine how you feel about things. You can’t have everybody like you. It’s okay for people to doubt you. It should be fuel to help you keep your head down and work harder to become successful.

3. Don’t Procrastinate

“Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.” — Unknown

Procrastination is the habit of delaying things you must do. Research has found that most of us procrastinate to some degree. It would be best to beat procrastination to live up to your potential.

Procrastination will cause you to lose opportunities and damage your reputation. It can stop you from reaching your goals, being happy, and obtaining success. Procrastination is a constant struggle for many of us.

4. Take Risks

“20 years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did.” — Mark Twain, an American writer

You won’t achieve success by playing it safe. Taking risks is scary, but the biggest risk in life is not taking a risk. Success won’t just appear one day. You are going to have to take risks to get what you want.

The biggest the risk, the biggest success. It would be best if you escaped the trap of complacency. Complacency prevents you from taking risks, trying harder, and making improvements. You become complacent if you don’t take the path of least resistance and don’t take risks.

5. Overcome Your Biggest Fears

“Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives.” — Judy Blume, an American writer

Fighting your fears will help you succeed. It would be best to overcome your biggest fears, so they don’t inhibit you from reaching success. Fear is part of life, and you must learn how to deal with your fears.

You could have a fear of losing control, a fear of failure, a fear of whatever is next, or a fear of time. Whatever your fears, they hold you back from living the life you were meant to live. If you don’t overcome your fears, you won’t be successful.

6. Don’t Play the Victim

“The victim mindset will have you dancing with the devil, then complaining that you’re in hell.” — Steve Maraboli, an author

Taking responsibility for your results will help you succeed. You can’t play the victim if you want to be successful. It would be best if you fought for what you want to create your desired results.

If you fail, you must get back up and dust off yourself. You can’t blame others and be the victim in life. Don’t wait to be rescued. Do the best you can and be thankful because, eventually, you will succeed.

7. Wake Up Early

It’s hard to wake up early. If you wake up one hour earlier, you will have seven extra hours to work on your full-time job and spend time on your side hustle. How you begin your morning will dictate how you spend your entire day.

How you start your day will dictate how you spend your day. If it starts off right, your day will be successful. Successful and famous people don’t sleep in; they rise early. For example, Oprah Winfrey wakes up at 6:45 a.m.

8. Handle Changes Well

“There is nothing permanent [in life] except change.” — Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher

Dealing with change well is a key part of being successful. It can be hard to change and accept. Successful people embrace change and welcome it into their lives.

Change is good for you, but many people see change as bad. You must embrace change to succeed and stand out in a competitive world. Find easier ways to adapt to it. If you want to achieve success, you must change.

9. Don’t Put Limits on Yourself

“Limits like fears are often just an illusion.” — Michael Jordan, an American businessman and former professional basketball player

Growth and success only come from pushing your limits. It’s about learning new skills, growing your experience, and increasing your knowledge. If you put limits on your life, you won’t be successful.

“The only limits that exist are the ones in your own mind.” — Anonymous

You can achieve the impossible when you are motivated to achieve it and push past your limits. Know that your limitations are self-imposed and that you can push past them. To be successful, you must challenge yourself to do bigger and better things.

10. Seek Results, Not Comfort

“Out of discomfort comes greatness.” — Cindy Gallop, an innovator, consultant, coach, and speaker

Success is not about working long hours and getting as much done as possible. It’s about working smarter (not harder or longer) and being comfortable being uncomfortable.

You must get out of your comfort zone if you want to get better at something or achieve a goal. Research has found that it’s better to seek out discomfort than success. The only way to grow and become successful is to seek discomfort repeatedly.

“Comfort is the enemy of progress.” — P.T. Barnum, an American showman, businessman, and politician

You must seek out discomfort and endure it to be successful. The more discomfort or awkwardness you feel, the faster you’ll grow. It can be hard to embrace discomfort, but you must embrace those feelings instead of shying away from them.
