Try Two New Good Habits

Success and achievements are built on good habits.

Habits are powerful. Your habits determine how you live and work. They’re the reasons you do what you do every day.

Most people struggle to achieve their goals because their habits hold them back. They have poor and unproductive habits that keep them distracted by low-value activities.

If you want to be successful, you need to learn to do what successful people do.

You can’t become a successful writer if you don’t make writing a habit. You can’t be a great boss if you don’t have the habits that make great bosses like listening, treating your employees with respect, and showing empathy.

The good news is that good habits can be learned.

It might be hard to start, but with effort, you can master the habits that will help you make the coming year more successful.

So, how do you set yourself up for major success going forward?

Choose just two new good habits to begin and two bad habits to drop.

Maybe it’s writing, taking care of your health, or listening. Once you decided on the habits, commit to practicing them judiciously.

Set Your Happy Mood For The Year

We all can set the mood we want. We can choose how we want to feel about anything regardless of the situation we find ourselves.

You can decide always to feel happy, cheerful, and confident or you can feel incapable, defeated, and unhappy.

Most people don’t realize they’re not at the mercy of their moods. The truth is you can influence and change how you feel.

Emotions are powerful.

Your mood takes up emotional space and determines how focused and effective you can be at work. An important but often overlooked aspect of high performance is being in the right mental and emotional state.

Ifyou want to be in charge of your performance in the coming year, one of the things you need to do is decide what you want your dominant emotional state to be.

The right mood is a critical element in the overall success equation.

If you’re always feeling insecure, not good enough, fearful, or defeated, you’ll struggle however competent you are.

Successful people always feel pumped up, confident, capable, and bold.

This doesn’t mean you won’t ever feel bad, frustrated, or sad about certain things.

The point is to make sure you’re aware of your emotions, good and bad, and to force yourself back to feeling in a way that allows you to keep moving forward rather than being stuck.

Relive The Beautiful Moments of This Year

Without a doubt, the year has been incredibly tough for most people around the world.

While countries are still trying to recover from the pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war has worsened the already dire economic conditions.

On top of that, most people are dealing with health issues, have lost loved ones, have faced business challenges, and so on.

Despite the problems, it’s not all doom and gloom.

You may feel as if nothing good has happened and allow the challenges to overshadow you, especially if you feel you haven’t met all of your expectations.

However, a little introspection will reveal how much you’ve achieved in the year. There have been memorable moments for which you can’t help but be grateful.

I can’t tell you how excited my family was when my wife told me she’d taken it in. I called my father, who congratulated me.

So take a walk down memory lane and recall the things that made you happy this year. Did you reach a career milestone? Learned a new skill? Grew your Twitter audience? Got married? Made new friends?

Just soak yourself, once again, in those warm memories that still make your heart skip a beat. Sit back and rest your head and play on those sequences of events that give your life a glittering touch.

Reliving happy moments builds your confidence and optimism. It’s an amazing therapy to rejuvenate you. In fact, a study shows that recalling happier times may be an effective bulwark against stress and depression.

Document Your Achievements And Lessons Learnt

As an entrepreneur, documenting your journey and progress is critical to success in the future.

This is about keeping a record or track of every single choice, decision, project, error, mistake, abd win that contributed to your success.

An achievements journal is an excellent tool for keeping you motivated and focused on achieving more of your life’s goals.

I learned the idea of documenting my success on Twitter from a top digital writer Dickie Bush. Here are his top 5 wins from 2022:

Left full-time job at BlackRock
Went 12 months without alcohol
Achieved my goal of 10% body fat
Grew from 120k to 295k on Twitter
Scaled Ship 30 to 5,500 students & Typeshare to 32k MRR
When you journal your success, it isn’t because you want to impress anybody or to feel proud of yourself (there’s nothing wrong with it). But the main idea is so you can see the measurable changes in your growth curve.

A year can make a lot of difference in your life and career. Knowing where you’re coming from and where you are helps you see how much progress you’ve made.

Write down the steps you took to achieve your current level of success. What were the challenges and mistakes you made?

Identifying your mistakes and the lessons you learned helps you reduce the chance of repeating them in the future.

Unfollow And Unsubscribe From Distractions

One of the most critical steps you can take to put your best foot forward in the coming year is to decide what to let go of.

Which commitments, bad habits, or even relationships caused you more stress than enjoyment? Think of 1-3 aspects of your life that you could let go of to create more balance and contentment.

Start with decluttering your social media feed by unfollowing and unsubscribing from uninspiring, distracting content and people.

Take 20 minutes or so to go through your email account and delete stuff you don’t need anymore.

Organize the rest into categories or folders. Cleaning up your inbox is like cleaning your mind. And make sure you haven’t forgotten to follow up on anything important so you can go into the new year without any unwanted surprises.

Let go of toxic and manipulative people whose only goal is to take advantage of you but won’t support you to grow or become better.

This is important because to make your big goals a reality, you need to avoid energy vampires and distractions from taking over your life.

So unsubscribe from bad habits, relationships, and needless social media entertainment that not only clutter your physical space but also impact your mental and emotional health, making less effective.
