Your mind is your only limit

Limits are all in the mind

“The mind is the limit,” declared Arnold Schwarzenegger. All his life, he believed: “As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you believe 100 percent.” And the result of that conviction is out there for everyone to see.

Limits are all imaginary, figments of your mind. The more you give in to them, the more powerful they become, exercising their stronghold on you.

When it comes to achieving goals, doing big things, and designing your best life, there’s no limit to what you can make happen.

Reach beyond your limits

Your mind has infinite power if you feed it on positive thoughts and lead it in the right direction. You can train it any which way you want.

The stories you tell yourself and the visuals you see in your mind significantly impact your mindset and perspective. Your beliefs guide your actions and therefore shape your reality.

Michael Phelps, the famous American swimmer, and the five-time Olympian, has a total of 28 medals to his credit. Not many people know that he had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) since childhood.

Any ordinary person would have lost heart, accepted his reality, and made peace with living an average life but not Michael. He refused to be limited by anything.

Phelps was only 15 years old when he qualified for the Olympics, becoming the youngest male to become part of the U.S. Olympic team.

He began his winning streak in the Olympics in 2004 and was unstoppable thereafter, collecting medals one after the other.

After the 2012 Olympics, Phelps announced his retirement. However, ambition and conviction were still in him, and his mind guided him to go for more.

In 2014, he announced he’s out of his retirement and shared his thoughts on participating in the next Olympics.

The 2016 Rio Olympics was going to be it. He proved the naysayers wrong and went on to win five more gold medals taking his total lifetime medal tally to a phenomenal 28. And he was 31 years of age then.

Limits are self-erected mental barriers that stop you from pushing boundaries and unleashing your full potential.

“You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.
—Michael Phelps

You have the ability and the strength to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Once you gain mastery over your mind, you can turn every ‘impossible’ into ‘possible.’

How To Tap Into Your Mind Power

Many people go through life, living in mediocrity because they accept the limiting beliefs and fail to tap into the power within.

Most times, mental barriers are the illusionary beliefs about yourself that are self-imposed and lead to self-sabotage.

You become your worst energy when you tell yourself what you can or cannot do without assessing what you are truly capable of doing.

These false assumptions stop you in your tracks and prevent you from pursuing your ambition and fulfilling your aspirations. You are therefore condemned to live in mediocrity.

“Learning too soon our limitations, we never learn our powers.”
—Mignon McLaughlin

Here are four easy ways you can overcome mental barriers and tap into the power of your mind.

1. Feed your mind with positive thoughts

Just as your body is what you eat, your mind is the thoughts you feed yourself. The negativity of the mind permeates all aspects of your life.

Think you are not up to something, and your mind will show you all the proofs that you cannot do it. Flip around your thoughts, tell yourself you’re capable of anything, and you’ll start seeing solutions and breakthroughs.

Each day you have a choice to choose the thoughts you’re going to think and the outlook on life you decide to have.

Choose to think only positive thoughts, ignoring the negativity around and within you. Do that consistently, even when you feel hopeless, despite feeling low and lacking motivation.

By feeding yourself positivity, you’ll channelize your inner energy into hopeful expectations and anticipate the positive outcomes of your efforts.

2. Develop a growth mindset

The value of a growth mindset to push your limits cannot be overemphasized.

When you adopt a growth mindset, you give your subconscious mind clear signals that nothing is beyond your reach. You can acquire knowledge, hone skills, gain expertise, learn anything you feel passionate about, and become what you aspire to be. There are no limits whatsoever.

With the right kind of programming, your mind begins to perceive the path forward instead of the obstacles, sees solutions instead of the problems, and views bridges instead of streams.

The fundamental change in the way you regard yourself — brought about by the growth mindset — is what sets you apart from others and opens floodgates of your future success.

3. Challenge your limits

To accomplish goals and become who you aspire to be, you have to step out of your comfort zone and push past your limits.

Like Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You must do the things you think you cannot do.” It is only when you challenge your limits that you realize what you can do.”

Things only feel difficult before you have tried something new or begun to pursue a goal. Once you get over the mental barriers, you become comfortable doing things and realize they were easier than you thought they were.

4. Prime your mind

The human mind is hard-wired for easiness and follows the path of least resistance to protect you from any harm.

It would any day choose pleasure over pain, familiar over unfamiliar, relaxation over hard work.

The truth is, you are capable of much more than your mind erroneously perceives and makes you believe.

You thus have to turn around the narrative and prime your mind; train it to do what you want it to do. In the end, it’s all in mind — winning or losing, achieving or giving up, fighting or resigning, average or extraordinary life.

What you believe and see in the eye of your mind creates your reality. When you believe in yourself, you’ll start attracting opportunities, your capabilities will grow, and your chances of succeeding will brighten remarkably.

Since your inside world controls what you manifest in your outside world, you must sow the seeds of positive thinking to yield a positive outcome of your efforts.

You have to be proactive, take action irrespective of it all, the resistance, the excuses, and the lame explanations and reasoning. Just get started.

Closing Thoughts

Accomplishing any worthwhile goal requires hard work. You need to put in the effort. But before that, you need to let go of the limits in your mind and believe you have it in you what it takes to materialize your dreams.

Tame your mind, tap into its vast power, and nothing can keep you away from achieving success and becoming your best self.

“Believe in your infinite potential. Your only limitations are those you set upon yourself.

Believe in yourself, your abilities, and your potential. You are worthy of all that you dream of and hope for.”
