1. I Fought Corruption Vigorously Since 2015 – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday called for the establishment of an International Anti-Corruption Court to try offenders while urging African leaders to intensify the fight against corruption and create more disincentives for the pilfering of public funds.

Buhari, who is the African Anti-Corruption Champion, made the call in his recorded remark to celebrate the African Day of Anti-Corruption.

This was made known in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

The President praised African leaders for gains so far recorded in the fight against corruption in the continent.

2. APC Has Been Rigging Osun Since 12 Years Ago – Atiku

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has called on the people of Osun State to protect their votes on the 16th of July.

Atiku, while speaking at the rally of the party in Osogbo, charged the voters to stand against the ruling party rigging the governorship election.

The former vice president was in Osogbo to canvass votes for the governorship candidate of the party, Ademola Adeleke.

Atiku in his statement also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of rigging elections in the state for the past 12 years.

He warned that the voters would remain in darkness if they allow the ruling party to steal their votes in the forthcoming election.

3. Osinbajo Speaks On Dumping APC Ahead Of 2023 Elections

The office of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to the reports suggesting he wants to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The report said to have originated from a leaked memo dated June 24, 2022, with reference number SH/VP/605/2./0, claimed Osinbajo had written to President Muhammadu Buhari seeking his permission to dump the APC.

The alleged memo titled ‘Permission to resign from APC,’ claimed Osinbajo cited family pressures and other personal issues as the reason behind his plan to resign his membership of the APC.

However, reacting to the said memo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande said there is no single iota of truth in the memo or its content.

4. PRP Withdraws From Osun Gov Election

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has withdrawn from the governorship election in Osun State, barely 48 hours ahead of the voting process.

The National Executive Committee of the party while giving the reason for withdrawing from the race pointed to the lack of political activities by its governorship candidate, Ayowole Adedeji.

Adedeji was accused by the party leadership of staying outside of the country since he won the party’s ticket, adding that he only travelled back to Nigeria two weeks before the election.

The National Secretary of the party, Babatunde Alli noted that a committee has been put in place to investigate Adedeji for soliciting funds for his campaign without holding any.

5. NNPP Presidential Candidate, Kwankwaso Picks Pastor Isaac Idahosa As VP

The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has announced the presiding Bishop of Illumination Assembly, Lekki Light Centre(LLC), Isaac Idahosa, as his running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Idahosa was announced as the party’s vice presidential candidate on Thursday to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral body had directed all parties to upload the details of their candidates on its portal before Friday, July 15th.

The former Governor of Kano State announced Idahosa after careful consideration and meticulous screening of more than 20 prospective candidates.

6. 2023: Zulum’s Commissioner Replaces Shettima As APC Candidate In Borno Central

The Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General in Borno State, Shehu Lawan has replaced Kashim Shettima as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 elections.

The decision to replace Shettima is coming after the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu picked him as his running mate.

The former Governor of Borno State stepped down from the senatorial race after emerging as the APC vice presidential candidate.

Delegates from the eight local governments in the senatorial district on Thursday elected Lawan at the party secretariat in Maiduguri.

The local government areas that voted for Lawan on Thursday include, Jere, Mafa, Bama, Dikwa, Konduga, Kalabalge and Ngala.

Lawan emerged as the district’s senatorial candidate unopposed.

7. Ngige Telling Buhari Lies – ASUU President Gives Update On Strike

The president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke has accused the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige of lying to President Muhammadu Buhari about the status of negotiations with the union.

Speaking on Thursday about the lingering ASUU strike during an appearance on Channels Television interview programme, Osodeke said Ngige must have been feeding the President fake information.

According to the ASUU president, if President Buhari had been getting the truth about the negotiations between the union and the government, he wouldn’t have issued the ‘enough is enough’ statement in which he charge the striking University lecturers to return to work.

Osodeke also stated that the figures the government is peddling as what ASUU is demanding are not true, stating that they didn’t give such figures during their negotiations.

8. 2023: Atiku Vows To Meet With Wike Over Grievances

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar on Thursday promised to hold a reconciliation meeting with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Atiku stated this a few hours after returning to Nigeria to support the governorship candidate of the PDP in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke in the party’s rally.

The former vice president while speaking on the grievances of Governor Wike and some PDP leaders said it’s nothing new in politics.

The PDP presidential candidate stated this on Thursday while addressing newsmen.

The PDP presidential candidate when asked if he has plans to reconcile with the Rivers State Governor, he said, “why not I am open to that.”

9. Stay Away From Our Region – IPOB Warns British High Commissioner, Laing

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned the British high commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing to stay away from the southeast region.

IPOB in a statement on Thursday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful said the life of the British diplomat is at risk as some people have planned to assassinate her during her planned visit to the southeast.

The IPOB statement added that the plot to kill her was unveiled by the intelligence arm of the group adding that those behind the plot, plan to blame it on IPOB so as to turn the British government against the Biafra agitators.

Powerful however noted that IPOB is not a violent group and can never be involved in the killing of others but warned Laing in her own safety’s interest to stay away from the southeast and Biafraland to avoid any unfortunate story.

10. Baba Ijesha Jailed 16 Years For Sexual Assault

Popular Nigerian actor, Olanrewaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha, has been sentenced to sixteen years for sexual assault.

The ruling was passed by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Thursday.

Justice Taiwo, in his ruling, noted that the jail term of the Nollywood actor would run concurrently.

The court convicted Baba Ijesha for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor in the custody of comedienne Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess.
