1. 2023: Why Buhari Will Never Support Jonathan’s Presidential Bid – Presidency

The Presidency has distanced President Muhammadu Buhari from alleged plans to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan to succeed him in 2023.

In a chat with Daily Independent, a senior presidential aide said the President was not behind the move to lure Jonathan into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and make him the party’s consensus candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

He stated that President Buhari would never allow Jonathan to succeed him after he heavily criticised him for mismanaging the resources of the country while in office for four years.

The presidential aide, however, said Buhari has great respect for Jonathan for accepting the outcome of the 2015 presidential election and rebuffing pressures from some of his loyalists to reject the election.

2. Gruesome Murder Of Two Soldiers Shows IPOB/ESN Carrying Out Terrorism In S/East – Army

The Nigerian Army High Command has condemned the gruesome murder of two soldiers by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia arm known as the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement on Tuesday, Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, described the murder as callous and despicable.

The Army spokesperson said the killing of the security operatives in Imo shows that IPOB and ESN are perpetrating acts of terrorism in the Southeast.

While promising to smoke out the killers, he urged the public to provide useful information to security agencies.

3. 2023 Presidency: Obasanjo Points Out One Person That Can Change Nigeria’s Economy

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has identified an individual he believes can change the economy of the country if given the opportunity.

Chief Obasanjo was said to have picked Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel as one person he believes can fix the country’s economy.

The former President was quoted to have made the submission when he played host to Governor Emmanuel on Tuesday at his Abeokuta residence in Ogun State.

The spokesperson to the Governor, Bola Bolawole quoted Obasanjo to have expressed confidence in the ability of Emmanuel to change the country’s economic fortunes around for the better based on what he has done in Akwa Ibom State.

4. NDLEA Accuses Nigerian Billionaire Linked To Abba Kyari Of Importing N22bn Tramadol

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has accused Nigerian businessman, Afam Mallinson Ukatu, of importing two containers of Tramadol worth over N22billion in October 2019.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA said the discovery was made during an ongoing investigation of the suspected drug baron.

Babafemi stated that the essence of the disclosure was to reveal that the anti-narcotic agency has evidence to accuse Ukatu of being a drug baron.

He pointed out that the suspect owns pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing companies, which he allegedly used as a cover to import illicit drugs into Nigeria.

5. 2023: There May Be No Nigeria Without Zoning – Clark

The leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Edwin Clark, has described the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress to allow Northern candidates contest for their party’s ticket as unfair.

Clark stated this while calling for the presidency in 2023 has to be zoned to the South-East extraction.

He noted that no Nigerian would like to live in a country where some people believe they have the only right to lead.

According to Clark, if the presidency is not zoned to the South-East in 2023, there may be no Nigeria as no one wants to stay in Nigeria as a second class citizen.

He stated this while speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday.

6. UN Sec-Gen, Antonio Guterres, Visits Borno

The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon.

The Portuguese politician and diplomat, was received at the Maiduguri International Airport by Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum.

Having received a warm welcome, Guterres proceeded to assess the humanitarian situation resulting from the decade-long Boko Haram crisis in the region.

During the visit, he will have one on one interactions with stakeholders in the state.

7. 2023: Fayemi To Declare For Presidency Wednesday

All is now set as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Olukayode Fayemi, announced he will be declaring his 2023 Presidential ambition on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Fayemi revealed this on Tuesday in a video clip he posted on his microblogging platform, Twitter, Naija News reports.

In the one-minute video, Fayemi unveiled his Nigeria agenda ahead of the 2023 general election.

He said, “the Nigeria of our dream is possible, a Nigeria that is the pride and joy of all, among others.”

Fayemi’s bid has also been confirmed in another social media post by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Akin Oyebode.

8. 2023: APC Must Decide On Zoning – Akeredolu

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday stated that the All Progressives Congress must take a definite position on zoning.

There have been calls for the ruling party to state its position on zoning ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

According to Akeredolu, it is the turn of the Southern part of the country to produce the next president of the country.

He said the party leadership should not find it difficult in making pronouncements on the issue of zoning.

The Chairman of South West Governors’ Forum in a statement on Tuesday warned the party not to allow the issue of zoning to throw it into another round of crisis.

9. Shehu Sani Reveals Only Way A Southerner Will Succeed Buhari

Former Kaduna lawmaker Shehu Sani has revealed the only way a Southerner will succeed Buhari in 2023.

As the 2023 elections draw closer different groups have been demanding that the south and in particular, the southeast produce the next president in the country.

However the two major political parties PDP and APC have not spoken on the decision to zone their presidential ticket.

Sharing his thoughts via Twitter on Tuesday, Sani stated that the only way a Southerner would emerge as president is if both APC and PDP pick a southern candidate.

10. IG Upgrades Police Crime Data Base Centre, Orders Training Of Personnel

The upgrade of the Nigeria Police Crime and Incident Database (NPC & IDB) Centre has been carried out by the Police Force under the leadership of IGP Usman Alkali Baba.

The aim is to provide additional aid to police operatives in acquiring credible electronic criminal database to support investigations and strategic operational and tactical planning which would, in turn, facilitate easy identification of suspects, crime location, modus operandi, Global Positioning System (GPS) to geolocate crimes, amongst others.

A statement on Tuesday signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi added that “the upgrade of the Nigeria Police Crime and Incident Database, which was commissioned by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2020, has become imperative in view of the sophistication of criminals, who now apply technology to perpetuate their nefarious activities.”
