10 Life Lessons You Learn as You Grow Old

Know them before it’s too late.

The average human life span is around 80 years. But if you prefer adventure, you can share your mind with four other people. Mind sharing — a concept introduced in Guy Morpuss’s brilliant novel Five Minds where one man shares a body for a few hours and transfer it to another one. In this way, one man can live 150 years.

Maybe the concept can become a reality. But till then, you only have limited time on this earth. And with that, you should learn some life lessons early in your life on earth.

Here are ten life lessons that you can learn and become a wiser person:

1. No one cares about your dreams as you do.

The most beautiful thing about humans is their individualism. Everyone is blessed with the ability to think differently.

You have the power to dream big, and only you can see that dream and visualize in your mind achieving that goal. Surely, you will need people to achieve that dream, but you will be the first to lay the first brick.

It’s your dream. If you can dream something, you can achieve it.

Consistency and hard work can do wonders. Take your dream seriously and move one step closer to that dream daily.

2. A healthy body is a goldmine

A healthy body is a gift from GOD. Don’t compromise it with bad eating habits or sleepless nights. Sleep early, wake up and do exercise.

Go for a walk daily or head to the nearest gym. A healthy body can easily perform miracles. Age is just a number. If you exercise and eat healthily, you’ll remain healthy and fit all your life.

3. Your friends will vary depending upon where you are in life.

Nothing in life is permanent. Even good friends. Some friends will be there with you for a moment; others will stay for a decade. But it would help if you were prepared for friends to leave you.

And trust me, trust does leave, and at times you cannot do anything about it. Always remember that friends are relative to where you are in life.

Take care of your friends and tell them how much you love them. Create memories with them. And even if they leave, pray for them and move on.

4. Relationships take time

Life is too short of leaving anything on chance. If you found your life partner, make an effort to keep them.

Give them comfort, time, understanding, space, and have patience. Normally, people are good, but their surroundings make them do stupid things.

The most common cause of failure in a relationship is a lack of communication. Stay transparent and share your true feelings with your partner.

Praise a lot. Give gifts. Listen to them. Speak your heart out. And help them become a better version of themselves.

5. Education is a never-ending process

Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune. ~Jim Rohn

Real education never stops. The day you stop learning is the day you limit yourself from becoming a better person.

Read books, blogs, fiction, non-fiction, anything and everything that helps you improve your craft. Watch YouTube videos, join forums, relevant LinkedIn groups, become a part of the discussion. Use Reddit to read the latest information regarding your subject.

6. Success is different for everyone. Find yours and stick with it.

Success is a relative term. For some people, earning tons of money owning a luxury home and driving a comfortable car is a success. While for others, doing charity work and living with simplicity is a success.

Figure out what success means to you and pursue it wholeheartedly. Don’t let anyone dictate what makes you happy. You know yourself better than anyone else.

7. Don’t sweat on the small stuff

Worry is a waste of your imagination. Whatever it done is done. You cannot change the past. You can only control your thoughts and how you react to things.

Instead of finding problems, focus on creating solutions. Whatever happened, figure out the root cause of it and make the necessary corrections to improve it.

Worrying and crying over it won’t make anything better.

8. Love your parents. They are the reason for your existence.

Respect your parents. As you’re becoming young, they’re getting old. Parents do everything for their kids. In their old age, give them love, respect, and attention.

Take care of their little needs. Make a lot of prayer for them. Tell them everything that is going on in your life. Make them proud. Listen to their stories. Spend time with them. Don’t do anything to upset them. And take care of them with all your heart.

9. Explore yourself

The more you know yourself, the better you’ll be able to improve. Focus on your strengths. If you’re good at something, improve it with hard work.

Know what makes you happy and what upsets you. Do something that excites you. Quit a job you hate. Start a business you’ve always dreamed of. Share your knowledge with the world for free.

The more you know yourself, the better you’ll be able to live a peaceful life.

10. Happiness is an inside job

Happiness is an inside job. Avoid toxic people and don’t do anything to hurt people.

Happiness is a state of mind. The more you help other people, the happier you’ll be. Give a lot of charity and see how a simple act gives you peace.

And most importantly, be grateful for the gift of life. The more you thank GOD for your blessings, the happier you’ll become.

Enjoy small moments of your life.
