5 Things ALL Healthy and Fit People Do

For those of you just stumbling upon my writing, my name is Ryan and I was a personal trainer for 10 years.

(I’m a cook now but that’s a different story for another day.)

During my decade in the fitness industry, I coached and trained 1,000+ clients. Some had truly life changing results, while others never quite seemed to get very far.

Why is that?

When I sat down this morning to think back to those times, I asked myself “what made certain clients more successful than others”?

Below is the list I came up with. If you have big plans and dreams for 2022 that involve being healthy and fit, follow along.

And like always, share it with a friend or leave a comment. I like hearing your feedback.

1) They meal prep.

You can’t out exercise a garbage diet.

Lasting results come from what you put in your body, not what you do in the gym.

Basic guidelines suggest eating vegetables, staying in the perimeter of the grocery store and buying nothing that comes in a box.

I can’t stress enough how important is to shop, chop and plan your meals ahead of time. Fit people know how much food matters.

2) They schedule it.

My best clients were the ones that made the gym a priority by putting in their calendar. I always knew, without fail, Brady was showing up at 5:45 in the morning and Angie at 6pm. They were routine and consistent about it. Both even showing up early.

Leaving it up to chance or worse, if you get get around to it, is a surefire way to fail.

Fit people understand that motivation is unreliable, life happens, and sometimes things slip. By scheduling it, they are committing and making it a part of your daily routine.

3) They pick something they enjoy.

If you don’t like it, don’t do it.

The theory goes: if you enjoy it, you’ll spend more time doing it. And if you spend more time doing it, you’ll see better results.

Traditional exercise may not be for everyone. It can be intimidating, boring, and repetitive.

Fit people live a lifestyle of health. They try different gyms, exercises, classes. They find something they enjoy, even if its just for a short time.

They don’t go to yoga class because “they heard it’s good to stretch”.

They go to yoga because they like how it makes their body feel.

They find something that works for them.

4) They think in the big picture.

Anything good takes time, I’ve said this before. Talk to any truly fit person and they’ve been doing it a while.

They don’t buy into hype.

They’re not trying to find the quick fix.

They follow the cliche it’s marathon, not a sprint, and they have a mindset of patience and long term thinking.

Never once have I heard a fit person say I need to lose X number of pounds by next month or I have to get in shape for X event.
They do it for life. They don’t do it for tomorrow.

5) They make it a non negotiable

Exercise is not optional in today’s modern world. Maybe our grandparents could have got away with doing it, but not us.

Fit people understand the importance of exercise and so they get it done, by any means necessary.

Quarantine didn’t stop them. They overpaid for equipment and worked out in their homes.

Your brain will come up with every excuse NOT to do it. Fit people don’t give themselves that option.

They got it done. Period end of story.
Do you do these things? Do you consider yourself a fit and healthy person? Anything you would like to add? Leave a comment below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
