1. #EndSARS: Buhari Govt Fires Canada, Twitter Over Handling Of Truckers Protest

The Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has slammed the Canadian government and Twitter over its handling of the truckers’ protest against COVID-19 restrictions in Canada.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, Lai Mohammed accused Canada and Twitter of double standard.

He said the Canadian protesters, who have blockaded roads and resorted to inconveniencing others, have been branded as terrorists or insurrectionists, subjecting them to a number of clampdowns by government and private organizations.

According to Lai Mohammed, GoFundMe has also shut down the campaign to raise funds for the truckers, after they raised over $10 million.

He said social media giants, Twitter, suspended the truckers account while the Ontario government frooze access to millions of dollars donated through online fundraising platform GiveSendGo to the protesters.

2. ASUU Reveals When Decision On Indefinite Strike Will Be Taken

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said a final decision whether to embark on a strike or not will be taken soon.

The National Executive Council (NEC) has since yesterday been holding a meeting at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Naija News reports.

It was gathered that Executive members of ASUU from institutions like OOU, UNAAB, TASUED, UNN, AAU Ekpoma, AAUA, UNIABUJA, EBSU, UI, and UNILORIN, among others are at the meeting.

As of the time of filing this report, the NEC is yet to arrive at a decision on the expected industrial action.

3. FCT Council Elections: PDP Wins 3 Area Councils, APC Wins 3

The results of the chairmanship election into the six area councils of the federal capital territory (FCT) held on Saturday have all been declared.

It was reported that elections were held to fill vacancies for 62 councillorship and six chairmanship seats.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 14 political parties and 472 candidates participated in the polls.

The six area councils where elections held were Bwari, Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abuja Municipal Council (AMAC).

The results from all the six area councils have so far been declared and the Peoples Democratic Party won in three area councils including the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) which hosts Aso Rock while the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in three area councils as well.

The PDP won in Bwari, Kuje and AMAC while the APC won in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji.

4. Ekiti 2022: Segun Oni Speaks On New Party He’s Joining After Dumping PDP

Former Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni has revealed that he is yet to join a new political party after recently duping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former Governor in a statement on Sunday debunked the viral report that he has joined the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and is set to pick the party’s ticket.

He said those spreading such rumours are only political mischief-makers.

Oni made this known in a statement on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of Engr Segun Oni Movement, Jackson Adebayo.

The former Governor said at the moment, he has not joined any party after decamping from the PDP.

It will be recalled that Oni dumped the PDP after losing in the recently-concluded governorship primaries of the PDP held in the Ado Ekiti, the state capital which was won by Bisi Kolawole.

Though he explained that APGA had approached him to pick the party’s ticket for the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti, he explained that he declined.

5. Again, Four Policemen Killed As Unknown Gunmen Attack Checkpoint In Enugu

Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked a checkpoint at Obeagu Uno Amechi along Awkunanaw–Agbani Road in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, leaving at least four operatives dead.

The unfortunate incident which lasted for about five minutes occurred on Saturday afternoon, February 12, 2022, left four officers instantly dead and several others with serious bullet wounds.

This is coming 48 hours after three policemen and Customs officer were killed in two checkpoints within the state capital.

Eyewitnesses claim the gunmen stormed the checkpoint and opened fire on the security agents.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said a manhunt for the assailants had been launched.

6. ‘Security Operatives’ Burn Down Houses Of Suspected IPOB/ESN Members In Imo

Some armed men said to be security operatives have razed down buildings in Imo State which reportedly belong to suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

ESN is the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It was alleged that the security operatives stormed Umuonyeoka Ihitteafoukwu and Okponkume communities in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo in search of one Uche Madu, who is alleged to be an ESN member.

A source identified as Emeka Obasi narrated to TheCable that the security operatives arrived the community in seven cars and when they couldn’t find their target, descended on the suspect’s family house in Ihitteafoukwu.

Another source in Okponkume community said the armed security operatives also burnt down the house of one Ekene, another suspected ESN member.

They burnt down the houses of his neighbours located in the same compound.

7. Ekiti Guber: Campaign With Kayode Fayemi’s Achievements – PDP Mocks APC

The Campaign Organization of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Bisi Kolawole, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to start using the achievements of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s government to campaign.

The Bisi Kolawole Campaign Organization (BKCO) said insecurity, workers sack, infrastructural decay, among others are Fayemi’s achievements that will make Ekiti people use their votes to send APC out of power on June 18, 2022.

The APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji had boasted that Fayemi’s achievements will be used to win the governorship election.

However, BKCO Spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said in a release on Sunday that “Fayemi’s achievements Oyebanji can build on are banditry that has turned most Ekiti roads to nightmares, kidnappings, workers sack, bad roads (Akure to Ekiti, no road) and blanket looting of public funds.

8. Why There Is A High Rate Of Divorce – Ibiyeomie

The General Overseer of Salvation Ministry, David Ibiyeomie, on Sunday stated that there is a high rate of divorce across the world.

According to Ibiyeomie, the high rate of divorce is due to the ideology of couples before they enter into marriage.

The cleric while preaching in his church’s headquarters in Port Harcourt said some people go into marriage with divorce in mind as an alternative when things go wrong.

Ibiyeomie noted that it is wrong to expect divorce in marriage, charging his members to embrace marriage with the mindset to stay forever.

9. I Lost Sleep Over Jonathan’s Alleged Defection To APC – Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Sunday, disclosed that he could not sleep when he saw a report that former President Goodluck Jonathan had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

According to Reno in a video on his YouTube channel, he had to switch off his phone, but people still found a means to reach out to him.

He further stated that incumbent and former governors, and prominent persons in the country called to confirm if Jonathan dumped PDP.

Reno disclosed that Jonathan, who he claimed is currently the most important person in Nigeria and Africa, would not announce his defection on Twitter.

He took out time to warn people against calling him on the issue, adding that Jonathan has always been a member of one party.

10. FG Provides 750,000 Jobs For Youths – Arabi

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has created 750,000 jobs for youths in the country to cushion the unemployment rate in Nigeria.

The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Arabi on Sunday in Abuja.

Arabi as the Chairman of, Technical Working Committee on Youth Employment, noted that the decision was reached following the discussion with the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.

He further stated that the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs was created as part of the real government’s plan to provide succour for the unemployed.
