5 secrets of parenting teens
1. CARE ABOUT WHAT MATTERS TO THEM
All teenagers need is the assurance that you have taken notice of their lives, that you have made a special effort to take interest in the things that matter to them. Make the interests your interests.
2. EMBRACE MOMENTS OF PERSONAL PAIN
Most of the time, heartbreak in a teenager’s seems pretty trite to us. But when painful times hit, it’s an open door for you to build trust and respect with your teenager.
3. PREPARE TO BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED – IT IS WELL WORTH IT
The task of making boys and girls into men and women is not for the feeble at heart. Accept the fact that raising kids means long days and sleepless nights with rare instances of gratitude.
4. STAY STEADY
More than anything else, teenagers are looking for people who will go the distance with them. They need you to pass the test of time and be there.
5. PRACTICE MODELING
Whether we realize it or not, our kids are working their lives after ours. Count on it – they take not of everything we do and everything we say.
